THE BLACK MADONNA & THE DRUIDS
The Black Madonna is a representation of The Mother Goddess, the ancient mother who birthed all life into the cosmic womb. She is a great guide to have in dark times, she travels, lives, and breathes in the darkness guiding lost souls back to the light. She takes us in her womb and brings to us the things we need to grow, she reminds us that growth pains, that in order for anything to become new that it must cast aside the old. She draws us to the whisper of her name in times of need, to the darkness of our souls and others who have hurt us, and asks us to heal and forgive. She holds you in the liminal space as you feel it all, she holds you at her breast as you cry it all, and she loves you hard when you feel no love at all.
The encounter with the Black Madonna is an experiential one. She changes your life, she allows you to believe in the pain of healing, in the death of the old but most importantly that life is a perpetual birthing process within you.
The Druids worshipped the Mother Goddess in many forms, they stood on the site of one of the most celebrated sites of the Black Madonna now in Chartres in France. They met at this place they called the 'Virgo Paritura': a virgin about to give birth. They knew the existence of this principle, this energy long before Christianity and the symbol that gave us the Virgin Mary and the virgin birth. We can cast ourselves into these representations as a way of honoring that energy, that principle, of giving it a symbol upon which we can cast our eyes, a symbol in which we can project all our adoration and astonishment of that source that comes through into the world, through a space in the earth that wishes to flood the world with this feminine quality.
We all have within us the essence of this principle, we are reminded to tap into that virgin perpetual birthing and we are asked to use it …
The Black Mother knows the Journey you have been on to be able to tap into that frequency, she knows the frustrations, the hardships, the isolation, the feeling that you are misunderstood, unable to communicate exactly what you are going through… but She knows. That journey that you stand in and at the threshold of now wants to remind you of this principle, it wants to remind you that the ‘Virgo Paritura’ lives within you in your sacred place.
Can you tune into this? can you feel the symbology of the virgin birth? Can you feel the energy of that which pours from this place on earth to reach you where ever you are?
Chartres cathedral was birthed from that energy, one of the most glorious, astounding examples of gothic architecture, where millions of pilgrims attend to witness that birth and to be touched by the energy that will birth them anew. Three black Madonna attend the site as a symbolic manifestation of that principle that births in all moments.
The Chartres cathedral adorns a powerful labyrinth, a symbol of the womb. It is no coincidence .
Close your eyes, place your hands on your womb / hara … feel the space, in the midst of the warm darkness, any suffering, any wounds, any pains, any trauma, anything that has ailed you, and call her in, ask her to lead you to the light where this matter births into something most divine.
