Who Influences you? What does this show about you?
INFLUENCE
Middle English: from Old French, or from medieval Latin influentia ‘inflow’, from Latin influere, from in- ‘into’ + fluere ‘to flow’. The word originally had the general sense ‘an influx, flowing matter’, also specifically (in astrology) ‘the flowing in of ethereal fluid (affecting human destiny)’. The sense ‘imperceptible or indirect action exerted to cause changes’ was established in Scholastic Latin by the 13th century, but not recorded in English until the late 16th century.
We pedestal and revere certain inspirational people, only because there is an unconscious part of our self that is being highlighted by them that lives within us. This can be positive as well as negative. The rise in cosmetic surgery can be seen as a result of the celebrity culture who on the whole have completely atheistically enhanced or changed themselves. Those who have issues with the way they look or who will compare the way they look to those they see on Tv or magazines may begin to make the changes to their own self because they have been ‘inspired’ they won’t see the unconscious behaviour that goes with that ( low confidence, ideas of perfectionism , low self-esteem, focus on the external rather than the internal, unhealed emotional pain, dislike of the self-etc, body dysmorphia… ) and they will carry those unresolved issues in them too.
There is also the positive aspects of inspiration and influence we can work with.
I have followed many whom I have been inspired by, those who work in psychology, spirituality, etc , they have written books that have changed the way we see the world, they have brought mystical and mysterious subjects to life and to the attention of those who love the mysteries of the world. These people are inspiring me in the same way as I describes in the negative inspiration, they BEEN TRYING TO SHOW ME THAT I HOLD IT TOO…. Lord how I have given my power away to these people in the past rather than trying to tap into that which I love about them and find it in me. Often being disappointed when they fall off the high horse that I put them on.
You see we are humans here with a divine mission and some of us are at different stages than others, some have mastered parts and still learning others, as we all are. Some of those parts that we are yet to master come to us in the guise of another , for example there is one Teacher that I adore; I love his passion for all that’s sacred, I love the way he masters his words to be deliciously juicy food that feeds my heart and belly full of love for all that is sacred and Divine. We both love the Black Madonna and the Christian mystics that trigger something deep within us. My heart explodes when he delivers cutting truths in a flamboyant way that musters not a single slice of resistance in someone ( oh how I long to master this piece! ) and I have in the past put him and others on bigger horses the more that resonated with me. I stood below them on that horse unable to see what they were showing me , until I started to work on this piece, and only after many fell off that trojan horse and fell on me!!
I began to write down what inspired me in that person … the good and the bad identifying the traits that were hiding in me , trying to get out. I asked the support of my teacher / good friend or analyst in trying to recognise the shadow pieces because you can’t identify all of these on your own ( that’s how the shadow works) and took the pieces I wanted to work on and worked on them. This is really good practice if you wish to see the inspirations that are unconscious in you and trying to burst out… and very humbling when you see the dark parts of you that need to be witnessed, healed and changed.
