FORTY SACRED DAYS- Candlemas, Imbolc and the Eclipse Passage

Candlemas arrives as a moment of completion and revelation, marking the forty days when Virgin Mary remained within the extended womb-field after birth, dwelling in closeness with Jesus Christ, allowing body, breath, soul and bond to settle into harmony. This period carries an ancient feminine wisdom of staying close, of remaining inside the maternal cocoon where life integrates itself gently and where love organizes matter through presence. I think we can all arelate to that feeling recently.

The number forty holds profound initiatory symbolism across myth, scripture and the psyche. Forty speaks of passage, maturation and preparation. It marks the time required for something essential to form its internal coherence. Forty days allow the body to recalibrate, the soul to anchor, and the psyche to reorganize around a new centre. This number signals sacred waiting that ripens into readiness. During these forty days we have been gestating inwardly, we have been gathering ourselves back into the body. We have been allowing tenderness to reorganize our inner architecture. We have been tending the subtle layers of attachment, safety and belonging. We have been learning how to stay with what is alive without rushing it into form.

Candlemas honours the moment when inner light becomes ready for gentle visibility. The flame rises with reverence, shaped by patience rather and the Light here emerges through devotion and care, shaped by time spent in intimacy with what has just been born. Imbolc also  lives inside this threshold as womb-light. It stirs beneath the surface as warmth, pulse and intuitive knowing. This is illumination experienced somatically, felt as an inner glow that guides orientation before words or actions arise.  We are feeling this inner glow, this inner movement. Imbolc teaches that true light grows through attentive tending and embodied listening.

Together Candlemas and Imbolc open a powerful corridor of change. The completion of the forty-day womb time flows directly into a two-week passage of heightened potency leading toward the eclipse. These days bring acceleration through alignment and we feel our awareness sharpening. Inner truth gathers coherence and begins forming quietly an orientation toward its future expression. This corridor invites deep attunement to the psyche and nervous system. New rhythms establish themselves as old structures soften as we really want to release them. The inner flame refines intention and organizes direction from within so that choices and movements begin to take shape organically, guided by what has matured beneath the surface.

These forty days now lead us two a two week portal as the approaching eclipse receives what has been nurtured. Eclipse energy acts as a threshold of revelation, drawing forward what has reached ripeness in the womb-field and placing it into a wider cosmic rhythm. Light and shadow collaborate here, reshaping perception and identity through integration rather than separation.

Candlemas completes the sacred staying. Imbolc ignites the inner glow. The eclipse carries the becoming into form. What has been held with care prepares to meet the wider world. The womb-light recognizes its moment and steps forward with clarity and presence.
